Wink, a company that caught a lot of media attention back when it was bought by will.i.am, a well-known musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, DJ, record producer, entrepreneur, actor, philanthropist and god knows what else, has been in the smart home market for quite some time, offering plenty of its own as well as selling smart home products from other brands.
Wink already has two versions of its Wink Hub, with the newest one bringing support for Bluetooth LE, ZigBee, Z-Wave, Kidde, and Lutron Clear Connect, as well as interesting Wink Relay Touchscreen Controller, Motion Sensor, Door/Window Sensor and Siren and Chime. It has also been selling smart home products from other well-known brands, including Amazon, Google, Philips, Nest, Dome, Lutron, Kidde, and others.
The latest product is actually a smart home security kit, the Wink Lookout, which incorporates all its devices into a single bundle and comes with the new v6.5 app, which will also be rolling out to current Wink users for free.
What makes the Wink special is that, unlike the Nest Guard, which costs US $499 or Ring Protect which costs US $199+$100 for subscription monitoring service, Wink does it all without a monthly fee and a down-to-earth price tag of US $199.
According to Wink, the new Wink Lookout kit will go on sale on October 31st on its website as well as HomeDepot and Amazon in the US. Hopefully, the company will extend its reach overseas and we will see it in both Europe and the UK.
