Big Republican donor trying to take over Twitter

Wants to purge the Liberal Jack Dorsey

A major Republican donor has bought a stake in Twitter and is seeking to oust Jack Dorsey and reform the social media platform.

Bloomberg News first reported that Elliott Management has taken a "sizeable stake" and has plans to push for changes at the social media company, including replacing Dorsey.

For those who came in late, Paul Singer, the billionaire founder of Elliott Management, is a Republican mega-donor who opposed Donald Trump during the real-estate magnate's run for the presidential nomination but has since become a fan. While Singer might be economically to the right he is an active campaigner for LGBTQ rights.

Reuters points out that Twitter "is one of the few US technology companies headed, but not controlled, by one of its founders".

Dorsey owns only about two percent of the company which makes him vulnerable to a challenge from an activist investor.

Dorsey has consistently said that his service isn’t biased, admits that most of the people who are hired by the company are what the Americans call left-wing  - while the rest of humanity identifies as centre.

“I think it’s more and more important to at least clarify what our own bias leans towards, and just express it. I’d rather know what someone biases to rather than try to interpret through their actions”, he said last year.

Clearly that is someone who will have to be silenced, particularly if the Democrats front up with a “left-wing” candidate this year.
