Xiaomi abandons charger

Claims it is all about saving polar bears

Xiaomi has decided that the coast is clear and it is safe to stop shipping chargers with its phones now that Apple has got away with it.

For those who came in late, the fruity cargo cult Apple thought it would be a wizard wheeze to get an extra buck from its users by charging extra for a charger. It was a safe sale, after all what is the point of owning a phone without a charger?

When the Tame Apple Press failed to make a big scene about the move, and fanboys just gave Apple more money, the rest of the industry saw that it too could charge their customers.

Lei Jun, the CEO of Chinese phone maker Xiaomi, has confirmed that its upcoming Mi 11 phone will not come with a charger, citing environmental concerns. Jun made the remarks on Chinese social media site Weibo, saying people have many chargers which creates an environmental burden, and therefore the company was cancelling the charger for the Mi 11.

The Tame Apple Press though is not amused, saying it was unfair that Xiaomi mocked Apple a few short months ago for not including chargers with the iPhone 12 and now it was copying them.

Xiaomi is not the only one. Samsung reminded customers in an ad that charging bricks were "included with your Galaxy". That Galaxy ad has apparently been deleted, however, as rumours continue to build that Samsung won't include a charger with its upcoming Galaxy S21 phones.
