Mac users fear their desktops are looking like their phones

You can’t take this seriously

The Mac community is starting to mutter about the fact that Apple appears to have run out of design ideas for their expensive desktops and is just turning them into giant expensive iPhones.

The Verge, which is normally happy to sing Apple’s praises is starting to note that the new version of the iOS operating system Sonoma is starting to look far too much like an iPhone.

The icons have become iOS icons, and their shape has become the iOS shape, and you can now use your iPhone as the Mac's webcam.
While the Verge does not want to complain too loudly in cash it gets taken off Apple’s Christmas card list, it does point out that this is coming at the expense of other functionality.

“ Every so often, other splashy features are announced (Stage Manager, Universal Control, Quick Notes) that I write about and never end up using ever again.”

Anyway, imagine the shock and horror when the Sonoma looked exactly like the iPhone’s lock screen and you could put widgets on your desktop.

Basically these are iOS carryovers which make no sense on a computer. When do you ever need to quickly glance at a computer's blank desktop while doing something else?

The only conclusion is that Apple wants a Mac to look more like an iPhone. There could be a number of reasons for that.

  • Apple ran out of ideas a long time ago and is going with stuff which is safe until someone has a eureka moment.
  • Apple wants to unify the PC and Mobile products over time.
  • Apple is saving cash and hopes no one will notice.
