Launch day arrives for OUYA

OUYA hits retailer shelves in NA & UK

After finally shipping their last console to those who backed the original Kickstarter project, the official launch for OUYA starts at retail today. The company has been lucky, due to the great buzz that the device has been able to achieve to line up a number of retail partners, including Amazon, BestBuy, GameStop, Target, and GAME.

While the ride for OUYA to get to this point has been a little bumpy for the company at times, the fact that they tried to be transparent about what was happening during all phases of the hardware and software development really did help. It has been great to see how agile the company has been dealing with issues and responding to feedback.

While the OUYA has not been perfect out of the box, the software continues to get improvements; and best of all, the amount of available software for the console continues to grow with really great efforts from the development community. Of course, it remains to be seen if OUYA will have the long-term ability to continue to grow the platform. In addition, it remains to be seen if developers can make money on this console platform and if they will continue to develop for it.

If you were not one of the Kickstarter backers of the OUYA project, you should be able to pick up an OUYA from one of the retail sales partners starting today.
