Fairphone offers de-Googled Android

No more code sent without your consent

Fairphone, a European manufacturer of mobile phones with a reduced environmental impact, has announced a partnership to offer /e/OS, the most "de-Googled" and pro-privacy Android OS, on its latest model Fairphone 3.

The outfit said that it is has removed many pieces of code that send your personal data to remote servers without your consent.

"We don't scan your data in your phone or in your cloud space, and we don't track your location a hundred times a day or collect what you're doing with your apps."

The e/OS variant of the Firephone 3 ships from May 6, priced at just under 480 euros -- "a 30 euro premium on the Googley flavor of Android you get on the standard Fairphone 3".

The Fairphone 3 manually install /e/OS gratis via an installer on its website.

Fairphone 3 is a modular, repairable design and is "constructed out of responsibly-sourced, conflict-free, and recycled materials" where possible. The phone has been out for nearly a year now and has a FullHD+ screen (2160 × 1080 pixels) with Gorilla Glass, 12 MP rear camera with Sony sensor, 3,000 mAh battery, 64 GB storage with microSD, Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor, 4 GB RAM, 8 MP front camera, NFC and dual SIM At launch it retailed at £408.
