We were lucky to find out that the demo unit that AMD showed to various journalists at a hotel near the Moscone center works at 1.6GHz.
This is a dual core Bobcat based CPU with Radeon 5500 equivalent graphics, 18W TPD and at least the prototype shown at the hotel here, runs at 1.6GHz.
Interestingly enough this is the exact same clock as the most prolific Atom models and Zacate actually should perform better than an Atom, ending up closer to Pentium and Core i3 notebooks. The graphics part works at 500MHz which is a much more modest speed than the one that we expect from Sandy Bridge, but then again, Sandy Bridge should be a higher performance part, something that is out of Zacate’s league.
These might not be the final clocks but since the CPU should ship to partners in Q4 2010, this should be very close to the final clock, although it is currently impossible to confirm whether 1.6GHz is the final clock. At least now you have an idea about Zacate’s clock speeds. Naturally Ontario will have to get a lower clock to maintain its 9W TDP.
