The Tame Apple Press is playing down the affair promoting the Apple line that only a small number of users are being effected, but given that all the Apple Studio Displays have the same hardware it is hard to see how this excuse holds water.
When attempting the update, users get a message stating "Apple Studio Display firmware could not be updated. Try again in an hour. If the problem persists, contact an authorised Apple service provider."
Of course, subsequent attempts fail, even if connecting via another computer.
This is the latest headache for the Studio Display which is hugely overpriced, has a pretty useless webcam and a 60Hz refresh rate, relatively high price tag and mediocre webcam.
Apple has immediately rushed to fix the problem. No, not really it has promised to fix the problem, one of these days, it depends on the weather and how it feels.
The Tame Apple press, without any shame, instead of reporting the fiasco decided it was a good time to advertise the product.
“The Studio Display packs an A13 Bionic chip (the same as on the iPhone 11) and runs a full version of iOS 15.4. As such, fixes arrive as part of an iOS update, allowing users to update it through System Preferences on macOS,” enthused one without a shred of irony.
