Apple to dump Lightning to please the EU

Testing USB-C because it honestly thinks it will make a difference

Fruit and nutty cargo cult Apple is looking at replacing its iPhone’s Lightning charging port with the more prevalent USB-C connector.

The move is to help iPhones conform to looming European regulations which aim to standardise connections.

Apple is working on an adapter that would let future iPhones work with accessories designed for the current Lightning connector.

If the company proceeds with the change, it wouldn't occur until 2023 at the earliest. Apple is planning to retain the Lightning connector for this year's new models. However, if it does not then it is squaring up for another fight with the EU over something that is really ridiculous.
