Mass production next year
TSMC has started risk production of 5nm chips and expects to be ready to begin mass production in the first half of next year.
Huawei, Qualcomm, Apple
TSMC has announced that it is doing a test production of 5nm EUV chips, but real production starts in 2020. A long-term investigation leads us to believe that most chips launching in the latter part of this year or early next year will, unlike the UK, remain on 7nm.

The mobile industry is definitely outpacing the manufacturing progress of both GPUs and CPUs and this is not going to change anytime soon. Apple lead the industry with millions of 7nm A12 SoCs, Huawei and Qualcomm are joining in, while the PC industry will get them slightly later with much smaller volumes and with the help of small AMD.
35 million ARM vs 1.6 million "other“ wafers
There is one big change that is happening in the manufacturing equipment industry and ARM used its ARMTechCon to educate us about the big change. Drew Henry, SVP of infrastructure at ARM, pointed out in its presentation that ARM silicon wafer production ends up in 35 million wafers.
Neoverse 7nm, 7+ and 5nm by 2021
Drew Henry, an SVP and the general manager of the infrastructure line of business at ARM, went on stage at the San Jose ARM Tech 2018 conference and revealed a new roadmap featuring new codenames and plans all the way to 5nm Poseidon core in 2021. It will be branded as Neoverse.
Always connected at 7nm and 5nm
ARM has already shared with the press and analyst that the company expects to ship Cortex A76 based products in both 10 and 7nm in late 2018/early 2019, but now it has disclosed a few more details about its 7nm Deimos and 7/5nm Hercules parts.
Intel has one percent Apple profits
The market is upset about the leaked news that Apple might dump Intel in its future notebooks in 2020. Apple is working on its own Kalamata chip that could power phones, tablets and Macs in the future.
The one after Snapdragon 845
Korean based Etnews has mentioned that Qualcomm 7nm manufacturing has been a big win for TSMC while two other US and China customers chose Samsung’s 7nm. TSMC traditionially have dibs on Nvidia and MediaTek too.
