Updated: Caixin took what CEO said out of context

Qualcomm’s CEO Steve Mollenkopf confirmed to China-based Caixin that the company had resumed sales and shipments to Huawei. The trade embargo and the fact that the US government stopped companies from trading with Huawei hurt financial outcomes for many tech giants in the US including Qualcomm, Intel, Microsoft, and Micron, to name just a few.

Snapdragon 7th series integrates 5G


It is all about the 7nm and die-area

Wafers are very expensive, especially for the 7nm leading-edge process, and 10nm is not cheap either. If you need to use a device in a battery-operated environment, then power consumption plays a critical role. But Qualcomm thinks that 5G deployment is happening much faster than was the case with 4G and wants to expand the reach to the Snapdragon 700 and even 600 series.

TSMC has announced that it is doing a test production of  5nm EUV chips, but real production starts in 2020. A long-term investigation leads us to believe that most chips launching in the latter part of this year or early next year will, unlike the UK, remain on 7nm.
